  • Delivering on Lake Victoria

    Documenting the journey pregnant women must take to access healthcare facilities in Mageta Island, Siaya County in Kenya.

Since time immemorial pregnant women living in Islands on Lake Victoria have continued to suffer in silence especially during delivery. Due to lack of proper governance, rampant corruption and negative attitude towards healthcare in Kenya pregnant women who live on Islands along Lake Victoria. They are forced to row across the waters for close to three hours to access a medical facility capable of carrying out a delivery. In most cases the women are forced to give birth in the wooden boats with the aid of the male operators who lack any midwifery experience thus endangering the lives of both the newly born and the mother.

Once the project is done which will b aired as a two part series in line with my house policy, It will create awareness of the problem at hand, put the government to task starting with the Counties all the way to the national government,It will provide for the need to train and deploy more midwives, The project will also make the world aware of the rot in the healthcare sector in Kenya, it will seek to see the local health centres equipped with proper medical equipment, personnel and supplies, Providence of a Speed Boat to serve as an ambulance. Establishment of a Maternal Death Surveillance and Response to control the issue
