    Multimedia journalism on how local neighbourhoods are surviving disruption by global climate change

ClimaTracker Investigations: Oxpeckers is in the process of producing four multimedia investigations focusing on “What climate change means for your town”:

  • Dry Towns: drone, 360 video, photographic & written investigation of how small towns in the Northern Cape are adapting to life without water for years;
  • Constricting lifeblood: podcasts, video, photographic & written investigation of village adaptations along the dwindling Olifants River;
  • Metro scope: Datajournalism investigation of 8 metro municipalities’ mitigation & adaptation measures;
  • Fire factory: Multimedia investigation into how the Umgungundlovu municipality in KwaZulu-Natal is working with the timber industry and local communities to intervene in extreme weather hazards such as forest fires and flooding.
  • ClimaTracker Platform: Oxpeckers maintains, updates and makes available for aggregration the data and research inputs on the ClimaTracker food security geojournalism platform and associated food basket calculator app, http://climatracker.oxpeckers.org/
  • Publication & dissemination: Oxpeckers publishes the investigations produced as a result of the grant funding, disseminates the investigations to third-party media, and boosts them on social media platforms.
